Millions of conservatives applauded President-Elect Donald Trump last week after he shut down screaming CNN reporter Jim Acosta by telling him that his organization is “fake news” during a press conference. CNN had spent the previous 24 hours reporting on a fake news story that Trump had made secret financial deals with Russia and that also contained salacious stories about encounters with prostitutes, and the president-elect had finally had enough of their nonsense.
Mediaite reported that incoming White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer demanded that Acosta apologize for being “rude” and “disrespectful.” He later added that he gave Acosta a warning at the press conference and that the reporter misrepresented their conversation and said the reporter needed to take responsibility for his actions.
A CNN spokesman responded to these allegations with the following statement:
“As we have learned many times, just because Sean Spicer says something doesn’t make it true. Jim Acosta is a veteran reporter with the utmost integrity and extensive experience in covering both the White House and the President-elect. Being persistent and asking tough questions is his job, and he has our complete support.”
